As the Number of Unemployed Grows, Pfizer Helpful Answers and SABEResPODER Join Forces to Educate Hispanics Who Lack Health Insurance About How to Access Prescription Medicines. - Biotech Week

California has one of the top five highest rates of uninsured Hispanic residents. As more people become uninsured due to the rapidly increasing unemployment rate, Pfizer Helpful Answers, a family of programs that helps people without prescription coverage save on many Pfizer medicines, continues to educate uninsured Hispanics about how to access necessary medications. During 'Cover the Uninsured Week,' March 22-29, Pfizer Helpful Answers is working with SABEResPODER to inform thousands of uninsured Hispanics in California about prescription options (see also Pfizer Helpful Answers).

Through this partnership, Pfizer Helpful Answers launched a multi-media educational campaign that included distribution and sponsorship of SABEResPODER's Healthy Living Guide, a Healthy Living Educational Video, a Community Education Workshop and broadcast of a video testimonial from program participant, Elia Ramirez, which played continuously at four Mexican Consulates in the Los Angeles area.

'Our goal during 'Cover the Uninsured Week' is to raise awareness that Pfizer Helpful Answers is one of many options for prescription medicine assistance,' said Gary Pelletier, director of Pfizer Helpful Answers. 'SABEResPODER has an extensive community education network and our partnership with them has been very helpful in reaching uninsured Hispanics in California.'

SABEResPODER is a company that distributes educational media tools throughout the 48 U.S. Mexican consulates, the Migrant Student/Parent Network, Select Community Clinics and through other community events and programs.

During 'Cover the Uninsured Week,' organizations all over the country are raising awareness and building support among policymakers, health care professionals, grassroots advocates, faith leaders, the business community and active citizens and reaching out to enroll eligible uninsured families in public health coverage programs. According to the latest Census data, California has 6,720,000 uninsured residents and more than half are Hispanic. Program participant Elia Ramirez received assistance for her husband through Pfizer Helpful Answers.

'If there is someone out there who needs help affording their medicine, I urge them to seek help with complete confidence from Pfizer Helpful Answers,' said Mrs. Ramirez. 'I think there are many among our Hispanic community who like me, do not have insurance coverage for their medicines. The help I have received from Pfizer Helpful Answers has been a blessing for me and my husband.'

Pfizer Helpful Answers is a family of programs that helps people without prescription coverage save on many Pfizer medicines, no matter their age or income.
